The Last Remaining Village in Glasgow

Introduction

Welcome to Carmunnock, a beautiful village in Scotland. It lies around 6 miles south of where FoSho CREW is based - Sunny Glasgow.
What makes Carmunnock unique is that it is the last remaining village in the City of Glasgow. This makes it a very special place and is a conservation village - home to a lot of history from its people, industry, buildings and countryside.

Video Planning

Fynn here! To be honest, there was little planning involved at all. I woke up to snow on the 29th of December 2020 and knowing that many can't get out and about due to 'you know what', I decided to head out with my smartphone and gimbal to capture a 'travel video' of sorts. The kind of video that highlights a place in its natural beauty, the perfect type of content for travel bloggers, AirBNB owners, Tourism operators and others.

I had a lot to do getting FoSho CREW content sorted for launch but wanted to also gift this video to the local community - So I took an hour out of my morning to capture this footage, walking around the village capturing a variety of shots I felt best represented the time and place.

Video Production

It is essentially a video constructed of b-roll and beauty shots. You can imagine people experience the space within this video, or interviews highlighting the places history, activities and the like. This would allow the whole video to be a lot more valuable for the audience and for whatever your objective may be - such as property rentals or experiences fir tourism.

This was created using all of our training principles, an iPhone 11 Pro, the Filmic Pro app and the Zhiyun-Tech Smooth Q2. I could have easily recorded all of this handheld using our Creator or Professional gear - it would not have been so buttery smooth with all the movement and would have taken a little longer to get 'everything in the bag' - Time I just didn't have.

The Q2 gimbal is my favourites because it's small, powerful and has a lot of nice functions. For those interested, we are not launching with a gimbal as part of our equipment packs because it's a piece of equipment that is not essential and challenging to source in bulk without lots of members ready to jump on board. It's something we're looking at as soon as we can! In the meantime, you can use our Amazon affiliate link to buy one here if you'd like.

I recorded this at 60fps (frames per second) at 4K and achieved these buttery-smooth shots using the gimbal

I edited the video in Final Cut Pro but you could have used any editing software, including an App such as InShot. I slowed all the footage down by 50% on a 30fps timeline which makes the footage even smoother and gives it a magical feeling. It also makes each shot twice as long which is handy!

Video Editing

I left myself a couple of hours to edit this together and in terms of structure for the edit, I made use of the narrative which my feet took me around the village, I chose the best music track I could find to give that Christmas feeling. This was purchased as part of a subscription to Artlist. I edited the video in Final Cut Pro X but you could have used any editing software, including an App such as InShot. I slowed all the footage down by 50% on a 30fps timeline which makes the footage even smoother and gives it a magical feeling. It also makes each shot twice as long which is handy!
